Non-Histone Protein Methylation: Biological Significance and Bioengineering Potential
نویسندگان
چکیده
Protein methylation is a key post-translational modification whose effects on gene expression have been intensively studied over the last two decades. Recently, renewed interest in non-histone protein has gained momentum for its role regulating important cellular processes and activity of many proteins, including transcription factors, enzymes, structural complexes. The extensive dynamic that plays within cell also highlights potential bioengineering applications. Indeed, while synthetic histone extensively used to engineer expression, engineering not fully explored yet. Here, we report latest findings, highlighting how fundamental certain functions implicated disease, review recent efforts methylation.

متن کاملProtein arginine methylation of non-histone proteins and its role in diseases
Protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) are a family of enzymes that can methylate arginine residues on histones and other proteins. PRMTs play a crucial role in influencing various cellular functions, including cellular development and tumorigenesis. Arginine methylation by PRMTs is found on both nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins. Recently, there is increasing evidence regarding post-transl...
متن کاملCavitation in Biological and Bioengineering Contexts
There are an increasing number of biological and bioengineering contexts in which cavitation is either utilized to create some desired effect or occurs as a byproduct of some other process. In this review an attempt will be made to describe a cross-section of these cavitation phenomena. In the byproduct category we describe some of the cavitation generated by head injuries and in artifical hear...
متن کاملRNAi, DRD1, and Histone Methylation Actively Target Developmentally Important Non-CG DNA Methylation in Arabidopsis
Cytosine DNA methylation protects eukaryotic genomes by silencing transposons and harmful DNAs, but also regulates gene expression during normal development. Loss of CG methylation in the Arabidopsis thaliana met1 and ddm1 mutants causes varied and stochastic developmental defects that are often inherited independently of the original met1 or ddm1 mutation. Loss of non-CG methylation in plants ...
